Release 5-cd-box Johnny Cash

Unhearthed, een 5-cd box over het werk van Johnny Cash, verschijnt 25 november bij American Recordings/Lost Highway. De box bevat 79 song waarvan er 64 niet eerder op cd verschenen. Die werden opgenomen en geproduceerd door Rick Rubin tijdens de opnames voor de vier "American Recordings"-albums, die Cash maakte tussen 1994 en 2002. Rubin openbaarde zijn plannen een maand voor de dood van Cash op 12 september j.l.
CD 1 tot en met 3 bevatten onermeer akoestische versies van nummers als "Long Black Veil" en "Flesh and Blood" en covers van Steve Earle's "Devil's Right Hand" Roy Orbison's "Down the Line" en de Neil Young songs "Heart of Gold" en "Pocahontas." Ook staan er verschillende duetten op zoals met zijn oude maat Carl Perkins in "Brown-Eyed Handsome Man", met Willie Nelson in "Like a Soldier", Glen Campbell in "Gentle on My Mind", Joe Strummer in Bob Marley's "Redemption Song", Tom Petty in "The Running Kind", Fiona Apple in "Father and Son" en Nick Cave in "Cindy".
De vierde cd draagt als ondertitel: My Mother's Hymn Book en bevat 15 songs uit een boek vol hymnes die Cash's moeder hem voorlas in zijn kindertijd. Solo-akoestische vertolkingen van nummers als "I Shall Not Be Moved" "Do Lord", "If We Never Meet Again This Side of Heaven" en "In the Sweet By and By".
De vijfde cd is een "best of" van de vier American Recordings-albums: American Recordings ('94), Unchained ('96), American III: Solitary Man ('00) en American IV: The Man Comes Around ('02).
