Na twee jaar stilte heeft John Gorka zijn vierde album uitgebracht bij Red House. De 14 songs op Old Futures Gone bevatten grofweg karakterstudies en maatschappijkritische teksten. Gorka: "I think I was drawn to folk music in the first place because the range of song possibilities seemed greater than any other form of music I knew about. I have had political or socially tinged material from the beginning. It hasn't always been overt but it's there,"

Producer Rob Genadek heeft voor de dynamiek in het album gekozen voor drie verschillende drummers en drie bassisten. Bij elke song heeft hij de juiste combinatie gezocht.
Aan het album werkten o.a. ook mee zangeressen Kathleen Johnson, Lucy Kaplasky (in Trouble & Care, het hoogtepunt van het album) en de rijzende ster en tour-partner Alice Peacock.
