Pete Morton een van Engelands beste singer/songwriters en vertolkers van het traditionele lied. Maar hij laat zich evengoed door rock als traditie inspireren. Martin Carthy is een van zijn grote voorbeelden. Toch is Morton niet met Carthy te vergelijken. Morton is meer een performer. Hij is opgegroeid met rockmuziek en straalt die energie ook uit tijdens zijn optredens. Die doorspekt hij met humor. Zijn grote kwaliteit is dat hij zijn sterke diepgaande songs koppelt aan een geweldige energie en kracht tijdens concerten.

Zijn gitaarspel is eenvoudig maar doeltreffend, zijn zang rauw, gedreven en krachtig. Toch kan hij in rustige nummers ook ontroeren. Hij is het bekendst van zijn song "Another Train", een lied dat graag door vele zangers en zangeressen vertolkt wordt zoals Vera Coomans, Eileen McGann, the Poozies en Sally Barker.

Vijftien jaar geleden stormde Morton rechtstreeks vanuit de New Wave de folk binnen. Zijn eerste klein gehouden album Frivilous Love was een solo-album. Folk Roots beschreef dat album als "quite simply the best debut album by a singer/songwriter out of the British folk scene." In de afgelopen 15 jaar heeft Morton 6 solo-albums gemaakt, twee met Roger Wilson en Simon Edwards als "Urban Folk", en een duo-album met Jo Freya.
