3 Daft Monkeys
Instant sunshine Tim, Athene en Jamie vormen de nu-folk-band 3 Daft Monkeys. Dit akoestische trio uit Cornwall schrijft al haar eigen materiaal, put daarbij uit verschillende muziekstijlen als Celtic, Balkan, Gypsy, Latin en geeft daar een eigentijdse draai aan met dance, dub, punk en reggae grooves. Het optreden oogt losjes, humoristisch, soms bizar en grappig, maar de drie muzikanten zijn hoog geschoold op 12-string-gitaar, basgitaar, tin whistels, bass drum, recorder en viool.
Nadat ze in 2002 een hit waren op het Glastonbury festival, werden ze het jaar erna uitgenodigd voor zowat alle Britse festivals. Maar ze staken ook over naar het vasteland van Europa en stonden ondermeer op het grote Lorient Interceltic Festival en op Duitse en Spaanse festivals. Over Ooomim, een 8 tracks omvattende mini-cd uit 2002, is fRoots in haar commentaar - ze kwalificeerden de groep eerder ondermeer als 'instant sunshine' - vleiend:
"All too brief mini album from Cornish unplugged world fusion crew, based way out west in Falmouth. A veritable melting pot of styles make a colourful carnival of noise with songs based in reggae, flamenco, punk and even a bit of Jethro Tull! The policy seems to be to throw everything at a song and see what sticks. Nothing wrong with that of course if, as this trio are, you're prepared to be a bit cavalier. Twist my arm and I'll opt for the joyous jigging of Crimson Eyes, as favourite after a few exposures, but eveything's pretty much summertime. Ideal for hot sunny afternoons round the barbecue." Op het moment werkt 3 Daft Monkeys aan nieuwe songs voor hun derde album. Samenstelling:
